I am proud of my record, my support for equality and universal human rights for all and the work I continue to do to promote freedom of expression.
I agree with J K Rowling. Keir Starmer’s equivocation on women’s rights is pathetic. It is a clear sign of what’s to come and I would urge women to think very carefully when they are casting their votes.
Until recently I was the elected chair of the Joint Committee on Human Rights at Westminster. I believe that Trans people should be free to live their lives with dignity and respect. I firmly believe in the protections for Trans people enshrined in the Equality Act.
However, I do not accept that any man should have the right, through self-ID, to choose their gender and gain access to single-sex spaces.
Rights can conflict and it is not acceptable for the hard won rights of women to be compromised by gender ideology. If the rules governing single-sex spaces are changed so that some members of the opposite sex are able to enter, those spaces become mixed-sex, and many women will self-exclude.
If males who identify as women are housed in women’s prisons, women will feel and be unsafe. If males are allowed to play in women’s sport, then fairness and safety for women are destroyed.
Keir Starmer’s Labour Party are set to win a majority across seats in England. With a new incoming Labour government it is going to be really important to have strong independent-minded voices in the next parliament to speak up for women & LGB people.
If re-elected that’s what I will continue to do.
and to stand up for the rights of women and girls.

JK Rowling: Labour has dismissed women like me. I’ll struggle to vote for it
“As long as Labour remains dismissive and often offensive towards women fighting to retain the rights their foremothers thought were won for all time, I’ll struggle to support them. The women who wouldn’t wheesht didn’t leave Labour. Labour abandoned them.”
