Joanna visited Pentlands Men's Shed which is next to the Pentland Scout Hall on Forthview Crescent, off Curriehall Road. She was delighted to meet several of the members as well as Ian and Rab, and others who help run the Men’s Shed.
They have nearly 40 members and meet every Monday and Friday mornings. They welcome new members of all ages and have no restriction on members of the Shed being only men but have not yet had any women along as prospective members.
They obtained, stripped out, and refitted a portacabin (Shed) by the Scout Hall for their own use, although still use the Scout Hall facilities. Along with all other Sheds the aim is to support men and help to ensure their well-being through social and other activities including DIY and community projects.
They have made bunny hutches for Currie Nursery, some planters for Balerno Nursery, fencing and signage at Currie Primary School and raise funds by selling items locally (kindling was a big money spinner over the winter!)
