I was delighted to have the opportunity to have a tour of a fabulous Edinburgh landmark – the King’s Theatre. It is a favourite of many in Edinburgh who remember going there in their childhood to see the Gang Show or a Panto, or even as part of the Festival.
The Chief Executive Fiona Gibson, Brian London, Project Director and John Robb, Technical Director walked me round the building, telling me of their plans to improve accessibility and sustainability, make a café area, enlarge the training space, greatly improve the orchestra pit, all of which will enhance the building, attract more touring companies, and make the building of much more service to the community.
It is a huge project and they have been fundraising for quite a while now. The building work is scheduled for early in the New Year and will take about two years. The war in Ukraine, Brexit, and increasing cost-of-living issues have meant that a little more funding is going to be needed. It is vital that this last sum is reached before the crunch deadline at the start of December.
