Redford Barracks: release of MoD land to the community

I am very pleased that the Minister for Defence People and Veterans has agreed to meet with me to discuss the planned closure of Redford Barracks and the potential release of the land for community benefit.

Redford Barracks has stood proudly for more than 100 years in Scotland’s capital city, yet this Government are threatening its closure with an adverse impact on both service personnel and the local community. The local community council is understandably worried about the impact this will have on their community.

I am pleased that there has been a further delay of three years until 2025 and I hope the MOD will use this time to engage with City of Edinburgh council and release this land for community benefit rather than selling it to the highest bidder for luxury housing.

You can watch my question to the Minister here.
