Canal View Primary School off to Mallorca – with everyone on board

Primary 7 at Canal View won the trip, part of Jet2 Holidays' Ultimate School Trip competition, earlier this month. They had produced a stop-motion animation video in order to secure the trip to Sol Katmandu resort. The holiday will include educational workshops with presenters Dick & Dom and Diversity's Jordan Banjo.

I am delighted that, following my request to the Prime Minister in the House of Commons yesterday, Mohammed will be joining his classmates at Canal View Primary School in Wester Hailes on a dream holiday to Mallorca next month.

They had produced a stop-motion animation video in order to secure the trip to Sol Katmandu resort. But Mohammed, who resettled in Edinburgh from Syria, was informed by the Home Office that his travel documents could take up to three months to process due to his refugee status.

When I heard about Mohammed’s situation, I asked the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary to help me cut through the red tape so that Mohammed could join his friends and enjoy the holiday of a lifetime, and I am very pleased that my call was answered. A senior caseworker at the Home Office has now received Mohammed’s application and everything is in hand to get him his travel documents in time.

I hear that Mohammed and the rest of the class were passed the news first thing this morning to lots of cheers of delight and a few tears of joy. I hope Mohammed and the rest of the class have a great trip.
