UK Government Partnership Papers

Today I have written to Amber Rudd the Home Secretary outlining my concern that the UK Government is failing to recognise Scotland's separate legal system. The UK Government has published its Policy Paper 'Security, law enforcement and criminal justice - a future partnership' without any consultation with the Scottish Government. Law enforcement and criminal justice are devolved to the Scottish Government. When I received a courtesy call from a Junior Home Office Minister this morning to advise of the publication of the second paper he seemed surprised when I took him to task for the lack of consultation with my Scottish Government colleagues and unaware that law enforcement and justice are devolved.
